Custom Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles

Sep. 24 2018 Miscellaneous By ___

There’s no manufacturer of motorcycles quite like Harley-Davidson, perhaps because their production and design principles are so rooted in a heritage of customization. It’s part of the Harley spirit of individuality, that despite offering up the coolest, most powerful bikes on the market, they also want their customers to mess around with them to their heart’s desires. Whether you’re into bobbers, choppers, or a streamlined CVO™, Harley has you covered.

At Rock City Harley-Davidson, we’ll never get tired of custom motorcycles. After all, we’re more than just dealers, we’re riders too! Today we’re going to talk about some of the foundations of Harley customization and hopefully inspire readers to think about ways to make their bikes more unique expressions of their own individualism. Read on for more information or head into our showroom in Little Rock, Arkansas. We serve Bento, Hot Springs, and all of Arkansas.

The Tradition of Harley® Customization

The true beginnings of custom motorcycles are still a mystery, but the tradition of modern motorcycle customization grew after World War II. Harley-Davidson had produced bikes to meet the needs of the armed forces and following the War, in a period of growth spurred by wartime victory and decades of economic depression, motorcycles became increasingly popular, especially with vets who had experience riding them while deployed. Riders used their bikes to express themselves and stand out, putting to work engineering and mechanical skills gained overseas. Harley-Davidson continues to support this passion today and offers a vast array of parts and accessories to inspire owners.

Harley-Davidson created their first factory custom motorcycle with the 1971 Super Glide®, which was designed by Willie G. Davidson. Davidson drew inspiration from the custom scene of the time, combining a Sportster® fork with the frame and engine of an Electra Glide®. While many lines and models of Harley bikes have been subject to customization, the VRSC often stands out as being completely customized by enthusiasts and independant workshops, from bodykits to custom wheels and tire lettering.

Today, Harley offers a yearly CVO line of factory custom motorcycles that feature a lot of great components and options not normally available. This includes larger and more powerful engines, unique paint schemes only available on CVO models, and plenty of boosted and upgraded parts that don’t get put into the general market until after the year’s run. This makes the CVO line a go-to place for a look into the world of custom motorcycles!
